On July 13, a five‑member delegation from Korea University, led by Vice President and Sejong Campus President Yang Jiwoon, visited the campus. Zhang Wencong, Party Secretary of HIT Weihai, met with the delegation, and Vice President Qian Hongliang chaired a symposium. The two sides discussed ways to deepen inter‑university cooperation and advance Sino‑foreign cooperative education programs, reached an initial consensus on cooperation.
Zhang introduced Harbin Institute of Technology’s 106‑year history and its strengths in engineering, and described Weihai campus’s more than 40 years of development in Shandong, highlighting achievements in discipline construction, talent cultivation and internationalization. He noted the geographic proximity and cultural ties between China and South Korea, and said higher education exchanges were an important link in bilateral cooperation. Zhang expressed hope that the visit would lead to practical cooperation, the launch of joint programs, and the joint training of interdisciplinary graduates with an international vision, strong engineering literacy and innovative capacity.
Yang introduced Korea University’s academic structure, research strengths and approaches to cultivating innovative talent. He praised HIT’s global standing in engineering education and expressed confidence in joint training and cooperative programs. He proposed that both sides should refine their plans, speed up program implementation, and expand cooperation in faculty and student exchanges, joint research and academic events to build a model for Sino‑Korean engineering education collaboration.
During the symposium, the two sides discussed the setup of cooperative majors, talent cultivation models and relevant school-running standards in detail and reached consensus on key issues.
Accompanied by Qian Hongliang, Yang and his delegation toured the campus’s research and teaching facilities, including the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park, the China‑Europe Membrane Research Center, the Student Electronic Information Joint Innovation Platform, the Analytical Testing Center, the Vehicle Dissection Teaching Platform and the towing tank, gaining an on-site understanding of the campus’s research capabilities and practical training resources.
Attendees included Kim Junghack Director of International Admissions and Promotion at Korea University; Kim Youngjin, Deputy Chief of the Vice President’s Secretariat; Xu Jiajia of the International Affairs Division; Wang Zezhi, Director of the Shandong Office of Korea University Sejong Campus; and heads of relevant campus departments and schools.
The visit strengthened the foundation for cooperation between the two universities and laid the groundwork for launching joint programs, expanding multi‑level collaboration and enhancing the campus’s internationalization.
