On May 13, Joan Guardia Olmos, Rector of the University of Barcelona (UB), headed a seven-member delegation including Vice Rector Raül Ramos Lobo for a visit toHarbin Institute of Technology, Weihai. Tan Yiqiu, President of HIT Weihai, received the guests, and Vice President Qian Hongliang chaired the symposium. The two sides held in-depth discussions on strengthening inter-university cooperation and jointly establishing a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution, reaching preliminary consensus on future collaboration.
President Tan highlighted HIT Weihai’s distinctive strengths in academic programs, talent cultivation, and international development, and commended the solid foundation of cooperation already established between the two universities. She stressed that partnership with UB is a key initiative to advance international education at HIT Weihai, expressing hope that both sides will leverage high‑quality resources to achieve mutual benefit.
Rector Guardia Olmos introduced UB’s academic advantages, disciplinary framework, and international cooperation strategy. He emphasized UB’s commitment to pragmatic collaboration with Chinese universities and expressed strong expectations for joint talent training, enhanced research cooperation, and the creation of a Sino‑foreign educational institution. He affirmed UB’s readiness to work with HIT Weihai to explore new models for cultivating globally minded innovative talent.
Both sides agreed to establish a regular communication mechanism, refine preparatory work, and advance the cooperative institution project, aiming to elevate the internationalization of both universities.
The delegation also toured the Campus History Museum, the Marine Exploration Technology Museum, the College Student Electronic Information Innovation Platform, and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park.
Attendees included Ander Elasti Lopez, Head of the Rector’s Office of UB; Sergi Martinez Rigol, Head of the International Relations and Student Affairs Office; Lluna Baltasar Comellas, Head of Institutional Relations and Protocol; Cao Rongduo, China Project Advisor; and Chen Fang, Coordinator. Representatives from relevant HIT Weihai departments and schools also participated.
