On December 5, the ninth photovoltaic (PV) Performance Modeling Collaborative (PVPMC) was held in Harbin Institute of Technology, Weihai (HITWH). It is also the first time that PVPMC was held in China. Professor Xu Xiaofei, Vice-President of HIT and President of HITWH, attended the conference and delivered an address. This conference was hosted jointly by Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) of HIT, Fraunhofer ISE in Germany, the Sandia National Laboratories in America. PV Professionals from China, America, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Japan gathered in Weihai to discuss the frontier technology and the development trend in the field of PV modeling. Wang Shitao (CTO of Arctech Solar, Dean of Research Institute of Arctech, an alumnus of HITWH ) hosted the conference.

Professor Xu extended sincere welcome to the professionals from all around the world. He pointed out that solar energy had become a vital field during the global energy transformation, and that PV industry has vast markets and tremendous development potential. As an international high-level institute in engineering, HIT attaches great importance to the new energy researches. Under the one two three three characteristic development strategy, Weihai campus is promoting the construction of new energy institute positively. Professor Xu wished that this conference could be a bridge through which we can strengthen the cooperation between SERI of HIT and other international well-known research institutes, promote the PV industry, and expand the applied range of solar clean energy.

Wang Shitao, as well as Joshua Stern (an eminent researcher in Sandia National Laboratories), and Boris Farnong (Head of PV power plant of Fraunhofer ISE), delivered a welcome address and gave a brief introduction about the seminar together. PVPMC is hosted by Sandia National Laboratory, gathering professionals around the world, sharing first-hand measured data in every link, doing exploration and publishing results about next-generation PV technology, as well as discovery and storage of new energy. Three professionals pointed out that it is significant to hold the conference in China, the largest and most potential PV market. Strengthening the cooperation with China research institutes, enhancing the understanding about China PV field, would play an important role in improving PV industry.

Wang Sicheng, a researcher of National Development and Reform Commission Energy Research Institute made a report named current situation and future vista, analyzing Chinas important status in PV industry, rapid development and broad market prospect. Ben bourne from SunPower company and Harry Worth from Fraunhofer ISE looked back on the development of PV modeling during the past 10 years and introduced the experience and latest progress of solar energy in Germany respectively.

It is known that this conference lasts three days, professionals present would discuss seven topics, which are solar resource data and prediction, modeling software upgrade, modeling methods and case studies, PV detection for attenuation, new PV technology, grid connected PV and dirt. The conference insists on high-quality academic reports and paper exchanges. Detailed and accurate data and analysis would offer a vital reference for the PV industry.
