President Xu Xiaofei Meets Professor Qu Jianmin of Tuffs University

On July 7, Prof. Xu Xiaofei, Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) and President of Harbin Institute of Technology, Weihai (HITWH), met with Professor Qu Jianmin, Dean of School of Engineering, Tuffs University, USA. The two sides held talks on student joint cultivation, research collaboration and some other issues.

President Xu introduced the background of HITWHs establishment and its recent development, and elaborated on university scale, the construction of unique disciplines, international cooperation, research areas and achievements based on the 1-2-3-3” Guiding Principle. He expected, through Professor Qu, the two universities could strengthen communication and mutual understanding, promoting bilateral cooperation in student cultivation, the exchanges of staff and scientific research, and other areas.

Professor Qu introduced the Tufts University and his research field. Known as a member 25 universities in New Ivy League, Tufts University is a famous American university. Nationally, in 2016, it was ranked 27th by U.S. News & World Report. Professor Qu has long been devoted to the study of solid mechanics, numerical analysis, materials science, and scored a number of important achievements. He said that Tufts University was well known for its internationalization and overseas study programs and had established Overseas Service Centers for Scholarly Exchange in Germany, Chile, China, Ghana and other countries. Professor Qu also hoped that the two universities could strengthen exchanges and carry out comprehensive cooperation.

During the conversation, the two sides exchanged views on the specific items of programs of students exchanging and overseas study, the International Summer School on Land-Sky-Ocean, and the building of International School of Ocean Science and Engineering.
