Jin Yi and Bai Yuhao from HITWH’s Department of Mathematics won second and third national prizes of Professional Senior Group in the finals of the 8th Chinese Mathematics Competitions (CMC), which was held in Beijing on March 18 and 19.
Launched in 2009 by Chinese Mathematical Society, CMC is one of the most influential mathematics competitions in China and attracts a large number of participants. As a high-level national competition for undergraduate students, it provides a platform for college students to demonstrate their mathematical foundation and thinking skills. It also provides first-hand materials for selecting math talents and boosting the reform and development of the mathematics discipline.
The national final of the 8th CMC was held at University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), attracting 284 students from over 100 hundred schools in 29 divisions throughout the country. For three years in a roll, students from HITWH entered national finals and won national prizes. Before Ji Yi and Bai Yuhao, who entered the national finals as top two contestants in Heilongjiang Division, were Wang Gang, national third-prize winner in 2015, and Huang Yuankai, national first-prize winner in 2016. These achievements are the natural result of the dedicated work by the teachers and administrators of Mathematics Department, especially Professors Qin Sitian and Ma Qiang.
