On March 21, HITWH volunteers participated in the celebration of World Social Work Day at the front square of Weihai Municipal Government, which aims at advocating social benevolence towards the underprivileged.
The activity started at 8 a.m. with billboards carefully placed around the venue. As citizens gathered, the 17 volunteers, organized by the HITWH Volunteer Service Center, began to distribute leaflets and helped introduce the World Social Work Day. Many people said they had been hardly aware of social workers until this activity and offered to help clean up after the celebration.
HITWH volunteers also gained a deeper understanding of social workers through this activity and came to realize that their efforts truly made a difference in solving social problems, which inspires students to become a more responsible citizen and pay greater attention to social problems.
Initiated by David Johns, Chairman of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), the World Social Work Day is intended to help solve problems for vulnerable groups in the community. It is also a great opportunity to publicize social workers and their contribution to society.
