From May 19 to 21, Tan Yiqiu, Assistant President of HIT and President of HIT Weihai , led a delegation to visit Hong Kong. The delegation met with representatives from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Hong Kong Metropolitan University, and the Hong Kong Productivity Council, and eached multiple cooperation intentions. Tan also attended the Global Ocean Summit 2026 and met with members of the HIT Hong Kong Alumni Association.
At Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Tan met with Wang Zuankai, Vice President; Duan Huanfeng, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Coastal UrbanClimate Resilience; Zhu Songye, Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; and other faculty. The two sides exchanged overviews of their institutions and discussed joint basic research in marine and environmental science, collaborative talent training, frontier research and industry partnerships. The delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Coastal UrbanClimate Resilience.
At Hong Kong Metropolitan University, the delegation met Chair Professor Tang Jianhui to discuss novel broadband antennas, circularly polarized patch antennas and related technologies. Both sides agreed on future collaboration and on appointing Professor Tang as an Adjunct Professor at HIT Weihai.
The delegation visited City University of Hong Kong and toured its State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health. Tan met Li Juan, Executive Vice President, and Chen Li, Deputy Director of the laboratory. The two sides reached consensus on joint marine scientific research, joint high-level talent training and short-term student exchange programs.
At Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the delegation met Professor Gan Jianping, Head of the Department of Ocean Science. HIT Weihai presented its marine research priorities and achievements, and HKUST outlined its key marine research areas. Both parties agreed to cooperate on marine environment studies and ocean current monitoring, taking full advantage of the marine geographical and research advantages of the Shandong Peninsula. The delegation also visited HKUST’s marine research facilities.
At the Hong Kong Productivity Council, Tan and the delegation met Du Yonghai, Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer, and other officials. They discussed scientific and industrial cooperation in marine environment, marine materials, road transportation and new energy, and visited related laboratories.
While in Hong Kong, Tan held an exchange forum with members of the HIT Hong Kong Alumni Association and paid a visit to alumni working and residing in Hong Kong. She highlighted recent achievements at HIT and encouraged alumni to remain engaged and support the university’s development. Alumni pledged to work together to promote the university’s growth.
During the visit, the delegation also attended the Global Ocean Summit 2026.
Relevant heads from the School of Marine Engineering, School of Marine Science and Technology, School of Information Science and Engineering and the International Cooperation Office accompanied the delegation on the visit.
